When Things Feel Overwhelming, You Do Not Have to Face It Alone

A mental health crisis can feel frightening and disorienting, both for the person going through it and for the people who love them. What helps most is a clear plan, steady support, and a psychiatrist who knows how to bring things back to solid ground.

Dr. B. Harrison Levine, MD, MPH has spent much of his career in emergency and crisis psychiatry. Before opening his Boulder practice, he served as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Director at the University of Colorado, where he built crisis services and led emergency psychiatry teams. He brings that same calm, practical experience to his patients and their families.

How Crisis Intervention Can Help

Support is focused on safety, stability, and a clear path forward for the patient and the people around them.
Psychiatric assessment
A careful look at what is happening now, what led up to it, and what is needed to keep everyone safe.
Safety planning
A practical plan covering warning signs, coping steps, and who to contact if things get harder.
Medication review
When appropriate, a review of current medications and careful adjustments as part of stabilizing.
Family and caregiver support
Guidance for parents, partners, and caregivers, with coordination among schools, therapists, and other providers.

After a crisis, ongoing care may include medication management, regular follow-up visits, and referrals to trusted therapists or psychologists.
