Medication That Fits You, Not a Formula

Starting a new medication, or wondering whether the one you take is still the right fit, can bring up a lot of questions. Will it help? What about side effects? How long will I need it? Those questions deserve real answers and a doctor who takes the time to give them.

Dr. B. Harrison Levine, MD, MPH is double board-certified in adult psychiatry and in child and adolescent psychiatry, and psychopharmacology has been a focus of his teaching and published work for years. His approach is careful and conservative: every effort is made to relieve symptoms with the most conservative use of medication possible.

What Medication Management Includes

Whether you are new to psychiatric medication or have tried several, care is tailored to your history and goals.
A thorough review first
Before anything is prescribed, Dr. Levine looks at your symptoms, health history, and any medications you have taken before.
Conservative, individualized prescribing
Recommendations are tailored to your needs, aiming for meaningful relief with the lightest touch that works.
Regular follow-up visits
Return visits of 20 to 30 minutes help track how you are doing, watch for side effects, and adjust when needed.
Coordination with your care team
With your permission, Dr. Levine communicates with your therapist, pediatrician, or primary care physician.

For some mood disorders, Dr. Levine also offers Ketamine Assisted Therapy using rapidly dissolving tablets within a structured treatment protocol. He can talk with you about whether it might be appropriate.

What to Expect

Your first visit

New patients begin with a comprehensive evaluation of up to 1.5 hours. If you are already taking medication, bring a list of what you take and anything you have tried in the past.

Starting or adjusting medication

Dr. Levine will explain his recommendations, what to watch for, and how changes will be made, so you know what to expect before you begin.

Staying in touch

Brief phone calls between visits are free and encouraged. Calls longer than 15 minutes are billed as a session, as described on our Policies page.

Ongoing care

To remain in care, patients are seen at least every three months. If less frequent visits make sense, we will discuss whether your primary care or pediatric physician can continue your treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you prescribe medication for children and teens?

Yes. Dr. Levine is board-certified in child and adolescent psychiatry as well as adult psychiatry, and he provides medication management for children, adolescents, and adults.

Can you take over a prescription from another doctor?

Yes, after an evaluation. Dr. Levine will review your history and current medications and, with your permission, may speak with your previous prescriber.

Not necessarily. Your plan depends on your needs, and Dr. Levine aims for the most conservative use of medication that provides meaningful relief. Changes are always discussed with you.

Return visits are typically 20 to 30 minutes, and patients need to be seen at least every three months to remain in care.
