Dr. B. Harrison Levine is a psychiatrist, guitarist, ex-chef, and former band member who took the scenic route to medicine—via the Culinary Institute of America, a couple rock bands, and medical training across three-and-a-half continents, including Israel, Ethiopia, Scotland, Michigan, and Manhattan. (Don’t ask about the half. It involved heatstroke, leprosy, and a goat.)
He started med school in his mid-thirties, which is “non-traditional” in academic terms and “deeply suspect” in admissions offices. Before launching his private practice in Boulder, he served as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Medical Director at the University of Colorado, building crisis services and leading emergency psychiatry teams that tackled everything from pediatric psychosis to bureaucratic nonsense.
He specializes in child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry, and has published extensively on emergency psychiatry, psychopharmacology, and why treating people like checklists is a terrible idea. He does not diagnose based on Instagram trends or neurotransmitters in your pee.
Outside the clinic, he plays guitar, bangs on things rhythmically, and still believes in the healing power of music, food, and gallows humor. His approach is precise, irreverent, and occasionally unsettling—in the best way.
